What kind of facilities there are in an apartment?

  • Fully equipped kitchen, shower, cleaning equipments and a washing machine downstairs. There are also all needed bed linen, towels, bathrobe and a hairdryer. Accommodation for two persons plus two extra mattresses.

Do I have to pay for the apartment?

  • Raumars offers the apartment free of charge. Costs payed by yourself are travelling, living and art transport expences.

Is there a studio?

  • Unfortunately Raumars does not have a separate working space. Raumars tries to arrange a studio e.g. for painters, but this has to be negotiated beforehand. Very often artists working with community art and local people do not require the studio, because so much of the work takes place at schools or similar places.

Do I need money for the apartment?

  • You will be asked to deposit 200 euro to Raumars bank account 6 weeks before your arrival. This money will be kept as a deposit for the house cleaning, telephone and apartment key. The money will be returned 200 euro in cash or to the artists’ bank account after the apartment and the equipments have been checked before your departure. The money will not be returned if you cancel your residency.

Is there a telephone?

  • Telephone calls are at the artist’s own expense. Raumars will provide a mobile phone with a prepaid card. The telephone number is +358(0)44-0959545.

Is there a computer in an apartment?

  • Yes, a laptop with basic programs. It is not allowed to take it out from the apartment. You can also bring your own laptop with a wlan-connection. There is also a printer with a good scanner.

How to get to Rauma city from the apartment?

  • - Raumars provides bicycles for artists’ use. Local busses pass by the apartment every 30 minutes. It takes only 20 minutes on foot.

How do I get the production money?

  • The visiting artist is entitled to project support 300 euros per month. Expences have to be related to the project specified in the residency application, but artists can also be involved in other projects at their own expense.
  • As the project support is related to the residency project the artist should discuss the use of it in general terms with the producer.
  • The money will be given against the receipts in cash. Or producer buys needed materials.
  • The receipts should provide exact information of purchased items, also from individual persons where a handwritten receipt with signature and telephone number is sufficient proof for book-keeping purposes.
How to get to Rauma?
By plane:

  • Airports in Pori (50 km north from Rauma), in Turku (90 km south), Tampere (145 km) and in Helsinki-Vantaa (250 km south-east)

By bus:

  • Busses from these cities leave nearly every hour. From Helsinki-Vantaa do not go to Helsinki city centre, instead take a direct bus connection to Rauma (first change at Ikea bus stop after 25 minutes and possibly a second change in Huittinen after 2,5 hours). Express bus from Helsinki-Vantaa to Rauma takes 3,5 hours. - Busses to Rauma cost around 9 euros (from Pori), 16 euros (from Turku) and 37 euros (from Helsinki-Vantaa) one way ticket
  • A site for bus time tables: www.matkahuolto.fi
  • A site for Turku transports: http://www.finavia.fi/airports/airport_turku
  • A taxi from Turku airport to the Turku bus station costs around 14 euros.

What happens if I have to cancel the residency?

  • When artists have been chosen they must confirm in writing accepting the residency which will be a binding agreement. Even if the artist has an adequate reason for cancelling the residency two months (8 weeks) before arriving, we will charge the artist 400 euros as compensation for the overall planning costs also including rental fees. We understand that changes may happen, in such cases we try to find a better solution for the residency. It is time consuming to find a new artist and to start a new project at such short notice

Do I have to have an insurance?

  • The artists or their guests are not insured by the residence. It is desirable that you have your own insurances for travelling and in case of accidents.
